Tesco Selayang opened on 7 November 2007 at the premises formerly owned by Makro. Ah Loot and I decided to check this place out today. We reached Tesco at about 4 p.m. and it was very crowded. But we were glad that there was ample parking space and also parking attendants directing traffic. The parking area was also very well lit and organised with different entry and exit points. Also, parts of the pavement were coloured to denote areas for trolleys and for people to walk. The place is very huge and I can see that it will do very well, unlike Makro.
I remember those days when I shopped at Makro. At the entrance they make me feel like a criminal. They check to see that I don’t bring any bags in and they point this gun like thing at me so that they can scan my Makro card before allowing me in. If I forgot to bring my Makro card, they kicked me out. Plus these goons at the entrance have such unfriendly faces (similar to those you see at the Immigration check-points). And one of the things I dreaded most of all was the long queue at the check-out counter. Needless to say, after a while, I stopped going to Makro entirely.
Tesco Selayang is a good change and even though the place is crowded with people there is not much of a hassle shopping there.
However, some of the shoppers’ children behaved very badly. They touched at everything they could get their hands on and played with the food like as though they were toys. Some ate the food like raisins and nuts. And the best part is that their parents allowed them to do as they please.
Another irritating trait of Malaysian shoppers is that they like to park their cars any which way they like. You will surely find cars parked all along the road leading to the shopping centre/supermarket, some even double parked. Then inside the parking area, you will find cars parked outside the designated parking lot. When the car park is almost full, you can find cars going against the traffic signs causing near accidents.
Tesco Selayang caters for both the small businesses as well as individual shoppers like me. So they have different shopping areas and facilities for both. There is a wide variety of food and stuff, we could spend hours shopping there. Yes, we will certainly come here again to shop.

Haha~ I agree with you on the pathetic shopper’s children. You should check out Carrefour on weekends… the kids are so sickening that you wish you could strangle them with your own bare hands. Parents in Malaysia, I wouldn’t say all, but most of them are just plain irresponsible and inconsiderate, they simply allow their children to behave badly in public, I guess they tend to think its perfectly fine… sigh…
